The competition, which took place in Olympia, Greece, from September 2 to 3, saw participants from 33 countries vying for honors.

Poland’s five-member team won five individual medals: two gold and three silver. This strong performance secured first place in the team rankings.

The Polish students’ participation was made possible through a collaboration between the Polish Economic Society and XTB, a Polish financial technology company, the Rzeczpospolita newspaper reported.

According to XTB, gold medals were awarded to Szymon Jackowski of the Staszic High School in Warsaw and Jan Baranowski from a public high school run by the University of Łódź.

Silver medals went to Patrycja Smentoch of the Academy of Good Education in Gdańsk, Szymon Sobiech of the Staszic High School in Lublin, and Wiktor Kocur from St. Mary Magdalene High School in Poznań.

“These two days were very challenging for our team, as the level of competition was exceptionally high this year,” said Radosław Ślusarczyk, the Polish team coordinator from the Polish Economic Society.

He added: "I’m thrilled with the results, which are historic for Poland’s representation at this event. I’m proud of each of our competitors.”

XTB's foundation president Sylwia Kozoń also expressed pride in the Polish team’s achievements.

“We are proud to have contributed to the success of these young economists," she said.

"On behalf of our company, I extend heartfelt congratulations to both the medalists and their coaches," she added. "We are pleased to see the immense potential of young Polish economists being recognized on the international stage."

Polish students have been excelling in the International Economics Olympiad for several years. Since 2019, they have won a total of seven gold, 13 silver and three bronze medals.

In addition to supporting the Polish team, the partnership between the Polish Economic Society and XTB is expected to expand into long-term educational initiatives, Rzeczpospolita reported.

The two organizations plan to create special economics programs in selected high schools across Poland, aiming to boost economic literacy and prepare students for national and international academic competitions.
